First Round Action

Well overall it was a pretty successful day today.  I won my singles match 6-1 6-1 and we won our doubles 6-4 6-3.  I was happy to take care of business in a timely manner today due to the fact that it was 96 degrees on court.  If breathing isn't already a big enough issue with the altitude, the heat is always there to try and get you as well.  I usually do pretty well in the heat though.  I grew up practicing in Bradenton, FL at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy where it gets about as hot/humid as anywhere in the world.  I trained there for roughly three and a half years so I would say I am pretty weathered.  Also a hot day in Mississippi is no walk in the park either.  It will get you if you aren't careful.  The main thing is to stay hydrated and keep the fluids pumping.  Anybody that has participated in any physical activity in the heat could tell you that much though.  Cramping is not something anyone should ever have to experience.

There was an interesting turn of events as I was walking on the court for my singles match.  I heard a pretty loud bang just outside the walls of the club and wasn't completely sure what had happened.  Once I saw some smoke starting to billow up pretty solidly I was starting to get a little bit concerned.  I mean foreign country and loud bangs close by, not really something you hope for.  I decided I needed to get a quick look so I wouldn't be wondering during the middle of the match.  Luckily it was just a car that had somehow caught on fire.  Made for some interesting scenery during the match though for sure.  There is nothing like a good background of smoke. Luckily the wind was working the opposite direction.

My second rounds of singles and doubles will be on Wednesday.  The times are not scheduled until the day before though so I don't have much information for you there.  I can promise that I will post again on Wednesday afternoon/night though on how it all went.  Hopefully I will have some more good news to share.

It has been a long day so I am going to keep today's post short and sweet so I can go enjoy some delicious mall food.  I do want to mention to you guys that if you ever do come to Mexico, you have got to try the Cheetos.  I mean USA Cheetos are awesome, but these Mexican Cheetos put them to shame.  It's like a fiesta of awesomeness in my mouth.  That is about the only way I can describe it so I will leave it at that.  I hope that all of you have had a good day and thanks again for checking the site out.  There have been updates to a few of the sections of the site, and there will continue to be a few more so don't hesitate to check them out!

All the best,

DB
